Ingredients and Benefits of Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain alkaloids slonain (0.007%), tomatin, citric acid, float acid, malic acid, minerals, vitamins, sugars, bioflavonoids, sapinin, protein, fat, adenine, trigolin, holin, histamine. Substances contained in tomatoes above has the advantage to overcome digestive disorders, loss of appetite, hepatitis, ulcers, hemorrhoids, hypertension and cholesterol.
Tomatoes are rich in lycopene which is one of the most powerful antioxidants, which allegedly can prevent carcinogenesis (Ismawati et al., 2008). Research Giovanucci et al. Showed that intake of lycopene-rich foods (eg tomatoes, tomato sauce, and pizza) lowers the risk of prostate cancer.
Create a tomato is very good for skin health. Several British studies have found that adding the tomatoes are cooked into the diet every day will improve the skin's ability to protect themselves from harmful ultraviolet rays. In line with the results of such research is the study of the University of Manchester and the University of Newcastle, who showed that adding five tablespoons of tomato paste to the daily diet can help prevent skin damage by protecting the skin from the effects of ultraviolet light on 10 of the 20 study volunteers. The twenty volunteers were divided into 2 groups. The first volunteer group (10 persons) were given a standard tomato paste as much as 55 grams and 10 grams of olive oil per day in their diet. While the second group of volunteers (10 men) were the control group who were given olive oil.
After three months of this treatment, the tomato group showed that their skin has a 33% additional protection against the sun.
The protection level is equal to the level of protection of sun protection cream, even with procollagen levels were much higher, procollagen serves to maintain the structure and composition of the skin to keep it supple.
In the same context, the results of these studies indicate that the antioxidant lycopene, which is the highest concentration when the tomatoes have cooked, was behind these benefits. Ultraviolet rays can lead to premature aging and even skin cancer.
According to a dermatologist at the University of Manchester, Lesley Rhodes, tomato encourage increased levels of procollagen in the skin. This increase indicates the potential for slowing the aging process of the skin.
